Position Summary:

This position is held by a seasoned leader with previous experience in the nonprofit sector who can lead the Safe Families movement in Wisconsin. What began as a grassroots movement in our state ten years ago is now an established state-wide organization with dozens of employees, several local chapters, and an established model. Our State Director is someone with both the vision to drive growth and the wisdom to provide steady leadership and decision-making. This position directly and/or indirectly oversees the entire state staff, including all our volunteers and church partnerships. Oversight is provided through a team of leaders that report to the state director. The State Director is responsible for creating and maintaining a broad range of  stakeholder relationships, from state officials, to funders, to church leaders. The State Director is charged with continually growing the organization’s reach and impact. This position reports directly to and is accountable to the Board of Directors.

Core Responsibilities:

Leadership & Administration

  • Build and maintain a culture of positive and effective collaboration amongst local chapters, statewide support staff, and state board of directors.

  • Strategize with key leaders to determine a vision for new chapters and new growth opportunities.
  • Hold responsibility for the organization’s mission impact, operational effectiveness, and financial stewardship through direct supervision, delegation, and policy enforcement.
  • Work alongside the Board President to drive vision, growth, and continuous improvement by creating board meeting agendas and working to drive board-level initiatives between meetings.
  • Grow and develop the state governing board, advisory groups, and local boards to cultivate the continued growth mission.
  • Lead staff through clear expectations, straightforward accountability, and strong decision-making.
  • Ensuring our hiring and recruiting efforts are consistent with our values of child safety, family preservation, and faith motivation.
  • Lead out our mission and values by taking part in the core mission as a volunteer.

Public Speaking & Representation

  • Be the “face” of Safe Families in Wisconsin.
  • Promote the vision and mission of Safe Families through public speaking opportunities, church presentations, small group meetings and one on one interactions.
  • Create and maintain strategic public sector and nonprofit partnerships to further the cause of Safe Families in Wisconsin.
  • Build strong relationships with other ministry leaders and churches in Wisconsin, deepening our presence in the Christian community.

Growth & Fundraising

  • Drive fundraising efforts by implementing strategy, maintaining key relationships, and providing support and accountability to staff.
